AdvEn granted U.S. patent for ESAC

September 11, 2023, (Calgary, AB) – AdvEn Inc. (AdvEn) has been granted a U.S. patent protecting the dry electrode formula and manufacturing process that underpin its Electrode Super Adhesive Coating (ESAC) technology.

“ESAC is a transformative technology to make dry electrodes for electrochemical energy storage systems such as supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries,” said R. Michael Steele, Chief Executive Officer. “Dry electrodes can be produced faster and at a lower cost than other electrodes on the market. Our electrodes provide increased cycle life, higher performance and significantly improved sustainability. These factors give AdvEn a distinct advantage in the clean energy storage market and have the potential to revolutionize the industry.”

ESAC production requires half as many manufacturing steps compared to conventional slurry-based wet electrode production and uses 90 per cent less energy with no toxic chemicals or volatiles in the process.

“When combined with AdvEn’s Advanced Super Activated Carbon (ASAC) and other carbon precursor materials, ESAC will contribute to an integrated battery ecosystem in Canada and is an integral part of our circular business model,” said Steele. “AdvEn’s products and our ESAC process will give our future customers a significant competitive edge.”

ESAC production is being piloted at the company’s Nisku, Alberta production facility. The patent was filed in 2017 and granted in the U.S. in 2021.
