AdvEn Industries Inc. granted patents underlying its advanced super activated carbon (“ASAC”) technology
Nisku, Alberta — September 21, 2021 — AdvEn Industries Inc. (“AdvEn”) announced that its patent application for Activated Carbons with High Surface Areas and Methods for Making the Same, filed in 2017, has been granted in the United States, Japan and Europe. The patent represents the underlying technology that supports AdvEn’s ASAC production which has been piloted for the past four (4) years and is the basis for the construction of its 36,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Nisku, Alberta.
“This patent grant validates our technology internationally and adds significant value to AdvEn’s intellectual property portfolio,” said Weixing Chen, Chief Technology Officer. “As a technology-forward company, AdvEn will continue to grow its base of intellectual property with future patents, trademarks and trade secrets.”
The patent discloses a way to produce super activated carbons without using strong acids, strong bases or environmentally damaging zinc chloride. The Company’s process of synergistic activation combines physical and chemical activation methods using combinations of chemical activation agents derived from weak acidic salts, weak basic salts, neutral salts, and other compounds to achieve high surface areas, high yields, less corrosion of processing facilities, inexpensive activating agents, and improved recovery efficiency of the activating agents.
“Four years of piloting ASAC have allowed us to fine-tune our process and produce a product with superior capacitance and surface area, low greenhouse gas emissions, significant reduction in energy costs and the elimination of toxic and environmentally damaging chemicals,” added Mr. Chen.
